Janet Holian joined Gemvara in 2011 as Chief Operating Officer and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2012. Janet has been a key leader in growing and developing Gemvara's game-changing business model that combines the values of traditional jewelry creation with modern technology to truly provide shoppers with fine jewelry exactly the way they want it, always. She believes that the jewelry buying experience should be about the customers’ desires and the perfect custom-made piece for their special occasion, not inventory. Janet is an expert in helping early stage, fast growing companies determine their go-to market strategies and executing on them flawlessly. She has built phenomenal teams and helped build great companies. Prior to joining Gemvara, Janet spent 11 years at Vistaprint as President of Vistaprint's European business, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Vistaprint USA, and various marketing roles for Vistaprint since being hired as Vice President, Customer Acquisition in 2000. While at Vistaprint, Janet helped grow the company from $0 revenue to nearly $1 Billion dollars. She built the worldwide marketing team from just her to over 1800 team members, and was a key member of the management team that took the company public in September 2005. Earlier in her career, Janet served as Vice President, Corporate Marketing at Andover.Net, a Linux and Open Source technology portal with leading Linux sites such as Slashdot and Thinkgeek. And prior, she held the positions of Vice President of Marketing at PersonalAudio, Inc. and Director of Worldwide Marketing at MicroTouch Systems Inc. Janet earned her B.A. in economics and business from Westfield State University in 1981 and completed the Tuck Executive Program at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in 1995. Janet's favorite Gemvara piece is an emerald-cut, blue sapphire and diamond ring. Her husband designed it for her as a Christmas gift.
Matt Nichols joined Gemvara in February 2011 as Chief Financial Officer and Board Member. Matt was previously a Principal at Highland Capital Partners where he invested in Gemvara and has served as an advisor since 2007. Through his investments in Gemvara and The OpenSky Project, Matt has become an e-commerce expert. Matt was also active in Highland's investments as a board member or board observer at Pixable (acquired by SingTel), Bullhorn (acquired by Vista Equity), U.S. Search (acquired by Intelius), and Going.com (acquired by AOL). Prior to joining Highland, Matt was a member of Google's corporate development team. Matt also worked at Morgan Stanley Venture Partners, where he invested in Avamar (acquired by EMC), Tarari (acquired by LSI) and Perceptive Software (acquired by Lexmark). Matt was a member of the Google IPO team at Morgan Stanley.
Matt's favorite piece on Gemvara is the Slim Pave Band with sapphires and diamonds because he gave it to his wife to celebrate their son's birth, it was his first purchase at Gemvara, and the stones are also Matt's and his wife’s birthstones! Matt was formerly a nationally ranked junior badminton player, but his racquet skills have not transitioned well to the Gemvara ping-pong table, where he seems to lose to almost everybody.
Matt received a B.A. in Mathematical Economics from Pomona College and an MBA with High Distinction from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
Jon Blotner joined Gemvara in the fall of 2012. As Vice President of Operations at Gemvara, Jon oversees the company's customer care team, product development, jewelry creation and logistics. Previously, Jon was a Case Team Leader at Bain and Company where he advised Fortune 500 companies in the technology, consumer products, and retail and e-commerce industries. He also worked in Bain and Company's private equity practice advising top-tier PE firms in the diligence process.
Jon's favorite Gemvara piece is the Band of Brilliance as he gave it to his wife to celebrate the birth of their daughter. Jon designed the ring with his daughte's birthstones and his wife's favorite metal. Outside of the office Jon enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and skiing, golfing, surfing, and cooking.
Jon earned his B.A. at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA at Harvard Business School.
Geoff Greene joined Gemvara in the fall of 2012. As Chief Technology Officer at Gemvara, Geoff directs the company’s e-commerce platform development and technical operations, as well as strategic product planning. Prior to joining Gemvara, Geoff was the CTO at Bullhorn for over seven years, the first truly web based and on-demand recruitment platform. While at Bullhorn, Geoff was instrumental in growing their users from 2K to 30K and managed a platform that supported 60 million transactions per day. Earlier, Geoff was Software Engineering Tech Lead at Macromedia for six years.
Geoff's favorite piece on Gemvara is the Naked Cushion Triple Earrings, also a favorite of Oprah's. He designed them for his wife and loves the way they look on her!

A veteran in the fine jewelry industry, Susan Chandler joined Gemvara in 2013 as Chief Merchandising Officer. With more than 20 years of experience working with luxury, fine and fashion jewelry, Susan came to Gemvara from David Yurman where she was Senior Vice President, General Merchandise Manager overseeing Women’s and Men’s product assortments. In this position Susan was responsible for driving business growth, optimizing product performance and increasing profitability. Prior to David Yurman, Susan was Senior Vice President, Brand Management & Merchandising at Frederick Goldman, Inc., a bridal and wedding ring company. Susan grew revenue by launching several independent bridal and wedding programs, re-launching mass account brands, and initiating product development and innovation in the contemporary metal business. Earlier in her career, Susan was the Director of Jewelry and Watches for Avon Products, Inc. and a Corporate Jewelry Buyer for Mercantile Stores. As Chief Merchandising Officer, Susan is responsible for developing and implementing Gemvara’s merchandising strategy for growth. Susan directs design, curates merchandise, and oversees the entire product assortment. Susan's favorite Gemvara piece is the Lillian ring, a sapphire cushion ring with diamond halos. Susan earned a B.A. from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.
Matt Marcus joined Gemvara in 2013 as Chief Marketing Officer. Trained as a design thinker and with more than 15 years of experience in global marketing, design strategy, and business operations, Matt came to Gemvara from R/GA, the premier digital agency, where he was Vice President, Executive Creative Director. In this position, he was responsible for building the Chicago ofﬁce through talent development, creative and deliverable quality, process design and business development. As a client partner he was responsible for designing business critical applications and services as well as developing global marketing campaigns and overseeing their executions. Sample clients included Grey Goose, SC Johnson, Capital One, MillerCoors, and Abercrombie & Fitch. Prior to R/GA, Matt designed and established Gucci’s global ebusiness presence as the Worldwide Director of eDivision. Matt was responsible for building teams and digital capabilities across 11 countries, in seven languages, and 14 sites. Working closely with the executive management team he helped grow the business ﬁve-fold in 24 months. Earlier in his career, Matt worked as a global digital systems consultant for companies such as National Geographic, MasterCard International, Lego, Staples, and Brooks Brothers. He built two start-ups and consulted to a number of others on brand design, platform strategy, and operational structure. Matt has a Master in Design Planning from the Institute of Design where he acted as an adjunct professor. Matt also holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin with a focus on film narrative. He is an avid outdoorsman and paddler, finding time to run a river whenever the currents can compel him.
